Abstract:
Flexibleteamworkinreal-worldmulti-agentdomainsismorethana unionofagents’simultaneousexecutionofindividualplans,evenif suchexecutionpre-coordinated.Indeed,uncertaintiesincomplex,dynamicdomainsoftenobstructpre-plannedcoordination,witha resultantbreakdowninteamwork.Thecentralhypothesisinthispaperis thatfordurableteamwork,agentsshouldbeprovidedexplicitteamplansandanunderlyingmodelof teamworkthatexplicitlyoutlinestheircommitmentsandresponsibilitiesasparticipantsin teamactivities.Sucha modelenablesteammemberstoflexiblyreasonaboutcoordinationactivities.Theunderlyingmodelwehaveprovidedisbasedonthejointintentionsframework;althoughwepresentsomekeymodificationstoreflectthepracticalconstraintsin(some)real-worlddomains.Thisframeworkhasbeenimplementedinthecontextofa real-worldsyntheticenvironmentforhelicopter-combatsimulation;someempiricalresultsarepresented.See also: 1996
